Hit-and-run and uninsured drivers
What to do, and which coverage may help.
If the other driver leaves or has no insurance, your own policy may still help, depending on your coverage and your state.
Right away
- Get safe and call 911 if anyone is hurt.
- Report a hit-and-run to police promptly; some coverage requires it.
- Write down everything you remember: plate, make, color, direction.
- Look for witnesses and cameras nearby.
Coverage that may apply
- Uninsured motorist bodily injury, and in some states uninsured motorist property damage
- Collision coverage, minus your deductible
- Medical payments or personal injury protection for injuries
