Getting a rental car after an accident
Who pays, for how long, and the limits to know.
A rental may be covered by the at-fault driver's insurer, or by rental reimbursement coverage on your own policy. Both have limits.
Know the limits
- Daily maximum (for example $30 or $50 a day) and total maximum
- How long it lasts: often until repairs are done or a total loss is paid
- Whether you need to use a particular rental company
Tips
- Ask the adjuster to set up the rental directly when possible
- Keep the rental receipts
- Return the rental promptly once the claim says coverage ends
