Claim guides / When you disagree
If you disagree with your insurer
Escalate inside the company, use your policy's appraisal clause, or contact your state insurance department.
Most disagreements are settled by sending clear evidence in writing. If that doesn't work, there are free options.
Steps
- Ask for the decision and the policy language behind it in writing.
- Respond in writing with your evidence.
- Ask to speak with the adjuster's supervisor.
- For value disputes, ask about your policy's appraisal clause.
- File a complaint with your state insurance department, which investigates consumer complaints for free.
